Mordechai said it

A lot of people from outside of Israel (pronounced The 5 Towns) are reaching out to me asking what can they do it help in the current situation. Naturally it makes sense, I have been living in Irael for 14 months, dont speak a word of Hebrew, and might be the least qualified person in the IDF if I tried.

Every time they ask I give the usual response of different charities to donate to or forward different whatsapp messages I'm getting from people asking for deoderant (why dont they wear this deoderant they keep on requesting when there is no war going on) and bullet proof vests (where people are getting these bullet proof vests don't ask me). Then I try to explain how amazing it is to be living here throughout the current situation (editors notes; there are a lot of sleepless nights, random sirens, random crying fits, tehillim for friends you just made...). The amount of chessed your able to do on a daily basis from cooking meals, volunteering your washing machine, or paying for a soldiers coffee. Random rides to bases, stocking grocery shelves, and making sandwiches. Every supermarket you go to there is a kid or a shopping cart collecting food and snacks for soldiers. There is a sense of klal you cant explain to people not living here. I really dont know how i would feel/make it in America just reading about the heartbreaking news/ worrying about every single soldier without having an entire country to give me chizuk.

In the story of Purim, Mordechai tells Esther she needs to go in to see the king and ask for all the Jews to be saved. Esther at first says "Everyone knows if you go to the king without being called the king will kill you". Mordechai responds "כִּ֣י אִם־הַחֲרֵ֣שׁ תַּחֲרִ֘ישִׁי֮ בָּעֵ֣ת הַזֹּאת֒ רֶ֣וַח וְהַצָּלָ֞ה יַעֲמ֤וֹד לַיְּהוּדִים֙ מִמָּק֣וֹם אַחֵ֔ר". It's the same thing I am telling everyone who reaches out, the geulah is coming, the question is if you want to be part of it.

PS Im starting to get really Zionistic

Israeli Deodorant Doesn’t Work

I finally ran out of my American deodorant. My wife (read as: my wife), spent the 6 months before our Aliyah preparing (shopping) and bought a years supply of every toiletry imaginable. Until 2 weeks ago we had enough childrens Tylenol, Q tips and deodorant to last us until 120. Then a few teenagers knocked on our door to collect toiletries for the chayalim and my wife (see above) donated everything we had in our house (not sure what the army plans on doing with all that childrens tylenol). BH we were happy to donate  and buy new stuff, the only problem is that Israeli deodorant just doesn’t work. A few things to point out:

  1. I bought Adidas deodorant thinking that it would be the American kind (had mostly English on it), it wasn’t, it doesn’t work and doesn’t even smell good.
  2. We all have had the experience being too close to someone (in a supermarket, on a bus, sitting next to you on a plane) and asking yourself why don’t they just wear deodorant. Turns out they might be, it just doesn’t work.
  3. There are Israelis that wear cologne instead of deodorant. I don’t get it. The problem is cologne you start smelling really good but fades fast while deodorant smells good all day long. See chart below:

  4. Israelis seem to love Axe (strong high school Abercrombie vibes). I will try that next and see if there is an Axe effect on the women of RBS.
  5. Maybe part 2 can be reviewing different Israeli deodorants. To be continued…

May we all be zocheh to see the coming of Moshiach and be squashed together in the Beis Hamikdash wearing deodorant that works.

Amen.

PeloDaf

Everyday I try to do two things, ride my peloton and do the daf. I have only rode once in the past 3 weeks (due to the war) and am 25 days back on the daf (due to laziness during succos). Why cant we combine my two favorite habits. Grab a water, grab a Gemara, and get your life together. Rabbis sweating it out for 45 minutes, working your guf and inspiring your neshama. Tana Kama Tabata, Pumpadeisa pop, and Hit Hills & Horiyos. Lastly, dont forget when we quote Rabbi Meir we "mess" things up.
